A print of a pen and ink drawing. It’s titled “A Lion’s Stare “. The mane is wild and blows back from his majestic face as the breeze comes off the Serengeti as he watches his pride watches just beyond.
The image is just under 14″ x 11″ and the paper size is approx. 15″ x 11″.
The print will fit nicely in any 11″ x 14′ matte opening.
Each print is numbered, signed and dated at the bottom.

I ship the print(s) flat between wax paper to protect print in a flat box or rolled in tube.

The original drawing of this Lion was done sometime in the mid 80′s and I had a print done of it towards the end of the 80′s. I just uncovered these now vintage prints. I thought they had been lost on one of my many moves but here they are and now available for you to buy. The copyright is not visible on print.
The paper is high quality professional stock paper.
The print is an excellent reproduction of the original.

Crafted wood box features a framed portrait of a male lion staring over his domain with his mane framing his regal face as the sun starts to set on the Serengeti. This lion with full mane in detail is part of The Painted cottage Furniture Collection of Functional Art.

The Keepsake Box is painted on the top of a stained, hinged and hand crafted pine keepsake box. The finish is a satin smooth luster. He is painted first and then I add my ink line work. This gives him the added depth. I have been drawn to lions since childhood so this Lion box is a very special to me.

Color Palette: honey stain, sage greens, golden brown, burnt orange, dark brown, earthy tans, white, cream.

The design is sketched on my own hand crafted wood keepsake box. I hand paint and add my signature line work. Each box is a one of a kind work. I do not use stencils transfers or prints and they are always my original work.

A table get a new life. In the middle of finishing.

Many years ago in a land called New Jersey there was a woman who discovered a passion for painting old furniture. Her name was Laurie. While experiencing a tumultuous time in life she found a new beautiful passion for reinventing old cast away furniture. As in all difficult times if we look hard enough there is always a reason, a lesson learned. I know cliché but still true. Though her life radically changed due to outside circumstances, bringing a rebirth of purpose to furniture seemed to help Laurie muddle through the dark days. Thus a purpose flourished and a business gave birth creating Laurie Rohner Studio, now LRStudio. Yes this woman is me.

LRStudio is a business created from a caterpillar to a cocoon to emerging again as a butterfly. It is how a like to view my studio emerging. Now it is made up of three divisions, first LRStudio, the second Between The Weeds and the third The Painted Cottage Home. The Painted Cottage Home is my studio shop name here in North Carolina. Between The Weeds is my online shop name where you can find just about anything woodland and painted, even custom fairy houses. Laurie Rohner Studio or LRStudio is the umbrella that keeps everything humming along and my fine art is under this canopy.

There is much this woman from New Jersey experienced over the next years but one thing stood out beyond the rest. What is put before you, know, it is there for you to be better and bigger than you were just a moment ago. I have failed terribly so many times but I know I have to keep going towards what it is I want. Honestly I like the work I do because it is different and unique in how I see the world. I see the world looking through the garden on my belly and discovering a different reality than the one viewed from above. I see wood carved and shaped into functional useful decor painted with the wonders I see in nature. On walks with my dear companion I find twiggy branches and fallen lichen and moss to pick up to use as inspiration for drawings and fairy houses. But the best thing I discovered is knowing I have a purpose and my purpose is to paint and create and to be blissfully content living my life the way I know I should be living it. I am not interested in the hottest look on the run ways or the in thing the must have that no one really wants. I am interested in creating beautiful painted work on furniture and decor. I want my furniture to say ahhh when you walk through the door. When you give one of my pieces as a gift I want you to hear squeals of joy and wonder. My painted work is timeless and high quality. I use traditional finishing methods and painting styles to last for generations as I know my designs will also. Painted furniture and decor has been here for centuries and will be here for many more centuries.

So now you see what it is that gets me up in the morning and why I know this is what I want to do. I think it is through the difficult times we see the light so much clearer. I also believe we are capable of achieving so much more than what we think dream or believe. I think when you say I know this is IT everything in life starts to flow towards what it is you know absolutely about yourself. Discovering is only part of the solution. It is knowing how to carry out what you discover with absolute clarity and focus that difference is made.

Cottage style decor is simple but is also so creative. It is why for myself I am so drawn to the style. The room pictured is all clad in white so you can mix it up with a bunch of color or one simple accent color. Here the designer had chosen red. Notice the work area to the side of this open airy metal framed bed with crisp white linens, there is a shabby slat board primitive desk and chair. It is given a fresh coat of white paint and fits beautifully into the room. This is a cottage farmhouse style essential being able to take a few old boards and mount them onto wall brackets. The leg supports are simple wood legs cut to size and screwed into [place. The chair maybe a found treasure in the dump, attic or flea market and given a fresh coat of paint. So simple and what a statement, bold.

Can you see yourself waking up in this bed on a spring morning with the sun starting to stream in the window. Outside there are birds chirping and the lilacs are starting to bloom. You stretch and the dog wakes and gets to its feet and the cat lying on the end of the bed looks at you saying just a few more minutes. What a great way to start a day.

Maybe you like painted cottage decor or maybe you don’t but what matters is I do. I come alive painting my designs and when I sell one of the pieces it is thrilling because someone else said yes to my work. Everyone knows the question if you never had to worry about money what would you do? I was never sure. I did know it would entail creating something. Yet last night I asked myself that question again and from deep down came not a whisper or a feeling but a big yes I know what I would do. Exactly what I am doing right now. Hopefully I will find enough people along the way who see my work and like it enough to buy so I can keep painting and creating. It may be small but I like to think it is how I give to the world.

This box is a recent addition to the shop and please if you have the time take a look. The cottage boxes I make are sturdy very well made from wood in the USA and Canada. Some of the boxes are hinged and others are lift off lids. I use Benjamin Moore flat paint as the base paint and acrylic artist paints for the decorative painting. There is an inked line added to the decorative work which is my signature style. I have honed for 25 years the process of painting decorative furniture.
